Kwara State Government on Thursday, sacked the State Social Waste Contractors over poor performance.
The Commissioner for Environment, Mrs Remilekun Oluwatobi Banigbe, announced the sack in a statement in Ilorin on Thursday.
“The Kwara state government hereby announces the termination of the Social Waste Contractors due to their inability to meet the relevant service level agreements,” the statement added.
The Commissioner said the well being of the good people of the state remained paramount to Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, hence the administration will leave no stone unturned to ensure a more hygienic environment for all and sundry.
DAILY POST reports that the issue of dumped waste along some major roads in the state capital, Ilorin, had been a major concern to residents of the areas affected.
The contractors also failed to evacuate the waste at the right time in most cases.
The filthy condition of some of the major roads had also raised the fear of possible outbreak of epidemic in the areas affected if appropriate action was not taken at right time.
